Smart. Skilful. Kind.
Our Middle School (Years 3 to 6) is where boys aged 7–10 continue their journey to becoming smart, skilful, and kind young learners. Led by Tom Taylor, Head of Middle School, boys begin to take more ownership for their learning not just academically, but socially and emotionally, too.
To bring out the best in each and every boy, the middle school provides a wealth of opportunity to try out new activities, join clubs and spark passion and interests: it’s not unusual to find boy carrying a cello and wearing his rugby kit, on his way to debating club or play rehearsal. We are proud of the boys’ impressive academic achievements, but there is certainly more to the Middle School than exam results. Whatever your son’s passion we will help to find and celebrate it.
Years 3-6 is an important time for boys to develop a sense of who they are and how they would like to be. Instilling the importance of being smart, skilful and kind is central to boys’ development of empathy and understanding the needs of others. This means caring for their peer group but also thinking about the wider world and community.

Our strong pastoral focus ensures every boy is known, valued and celebrated. In Year 3 & 4 boys are predominantly taught by their Form teacher but benefit from subject-specialist teaching in Music, Drama, Art, PE, and Games.
In Year 5, we move to a secondary school model, where boys receive specialist teaching across all subjects and are also set in English and Maths. This specialist approach fosters deeper learning and helps boys develop a genuine passion for their subjects. It also helps to ensure they are well prepared for the 11+ process.
Senior Schools and the 11+ Process
Rokeby continues to enjoy strong relationships with a wide range of senior schools, these include local day schools as well as traditional boarding. We prepare the boys well for entrance exams, but we also work closely with parents to offer advice and support thought the 11+ process. Rokeby is a standalone prep school that finishes in Year 8, and as such parents can enjoy a breadth of choice and flexibility when it comes to planning the next steps in their son’s education.
We also understand the needs of busy families and so offer wrap around care from 7:30am to 6:00pm, providing flexibility for parents and a familiar, caring environment for boys throughout the school day.
